Between the dawn of civilization and now, there have been about 400 generations of parents.1 They deeply cared about their baby’s wellbeing, just as you do.
And they kept their babies safe at night without the tools that modern parents rely on:
video monitors installed on the ceiling
smart bassinets and baby monitors worn as socks
breathable mattresses
mesh bed rails, fall pads, and pool noodles to pack the gap
baby loungers, nests, pods, etc.
In the past, the most reliable tool that mothers had to keep their baby safe beside them was the cuddle curl position. And that worked well! (The fact that you and I are here today is proof of that.)
Even though times have changed, your biology has not.
Your body is a more reliable tool to keep your baby safe than any modern day baby product on the market.
So the next time you feel nervous about bedsharing without using a lounger, sock monitor, etc. remind yourself that the vast majority of parents who came before us kept their babies close and safe at night without them.
Don’t underestimate that magical body of yours.
