Do you remember what it was like after the pandemic, as you ever-so-slowly made your way back out into public? You’d never felt more socially-awkward in your life and it seemed like everyone was standing way too close… You could only make it for a few minutes or hours at a time before you were itching to get back behind closed doors.
That’s where I am right now.
In these last almost-two years that I’ve been writing my book, I have been cooped up. Extremely isolated, left alone for far too long... I’ve only rarely spent time with friends. I haven’t pursued any hobbies, taken even one yoga class, traveled out of state.
But I just turned in the second and final draft of my manuscript, and it’s time to get back out there.
Earlier in the month, I saw my main squeeze Leon Bridges in concert. Then I went to a conference to see Dr. James McKenna speak on breastfeeding and bedsharing. (Separate post all about that coming!) And last weekend, I drove down to the central coast to spend the weekend with my extended family.
It’s not pretty. I accidentally interrupt everyone, I stutter and lose my train of thought... But I’m getting better with more practice.
And as I continue to awkwardly make my way back out there, I hope I’ll have more time and energy for you. Thank you for being here. I hope my emails help you feel seen, less alone, and more confident about sharing sleep with your baby. Xx
If you are in the US or Canada and need a safer mattress for your family bed, this is the time of year to find one!
My three favorite brands are having big sales right now:
This is my favorite mattress of all time — we bedshare on it every night! I am obsessed!
This is a crowd favorite among our Cosleepy Instagram community
Don’t need a whole new mattress, but you’d like a firm mattress topper? This is my top choice by a landslide!
WHAT I CREATED
It wasn’t my most prolific month, but here are all the things that I put out into the world in June…
🌱 An essay from

✨ What my husband said after he watched my baby and me bedshare for the first time

❤️🩹 The long-lasting impacts of being shut out at night
WHAT I BOUGHT
I got to spend my birthday money and gift cards this month!
I couldn’t resist this Indoorsy crewneck sweater. I thought it was perfect for parents like us who spend so much time at home with our contact napping and cosleeping babes!
There are lots of color combos to choose from. Get one, too, and be sure to tag me if you share a selfie!
I also used up a gift card to Sézane on these black jeans and lacy top. I paid for expedited shipping from France so that I could get them in time for our family reunion on the coast. They did arrive in time, but then I discovered that couldn’t button up the jeans! 🙃 Make sure you double-check sizing if you don’t live in France — I didn’t!
WHAT I READ
📚 I gave up on three books that didn’t grab me, but I did finish two. (And I loved both of them!) What are you reading during contact naps? Hit reply and let me know!
★★★★☆
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. And behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway — a duel between two young magicians.
★★★★★
The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden
An exhilarating, twisted tale of desire, suspicion, and obsession between two women staying in the same house in the Dutch countryside during the summer of 1961 — a powerful exploration of the legacy of WWII and the darker parts of our collective past.
DNF: Set Piece, Intermezzo, Sunny Side Up
DID YOU KNOW? I have read hundreds of books on my phone over the last few years while lying beside my sleeping boys through the Libby app. All for free. Download the app, enter your library card, find a good book, and dive in!
(You can send the book to your e-reader, if you’d prefer!)
You can tap here to see what I read in May, April, March, February, January, December, November, and October. I generally suggest a gentle genre for this season of life, like romance or mystery!
Okay I relate soo much to the social awkwardness after being cooped up so long!! I'm finally starting to connect with my community in person more after a pretty isolating career in the arts, covid, and then being a new mom.. i am the most awkward person i know haha. I need that indoorsy sweter!!
